SO USEFUL…
One of the most outstanding inventions of mankind is the wheel, and among its numerous variations, the rubber tire is, perhaps, the most widely used. The automotive industry could not exist without it. Being as it is a product of such high global demand, represents a good portion of the world economy. Rubber tires are an indispensable element of modern life, indeed.
…AND YET SO HARMFUL
But unfortunately, tires are among the most common plastic polluters and the International Union for Conservation of Nature says they represent 28% of microplastic waste in the world´s oceans, thus having an evident negative impact on human health and the environment.
YOU CANNOT:
- Throw away old tires anywhere; if caught, not only you will likely be required to clean up any illegally dumped tires, but you will also be facing legal issues.
- Burn old worn-out tires; it is illegal because of the harmful chemicals and toxic fumes they release.
- Keep them in your backyard; the rainwater collected inside old tires attracts pests, insects, and mosquitoes which are transmitters of several diseases. Besides, as the tires break down, they leach carcinogenic and mutagenic chemicals and heavy metals.
PROPER DISPOSAL
There are strict laws against improper disposal of tires that include fines and, in some cases, jail. Here are some ideas you can do to get rid of old tires in a proper way:
- Check with the local government or waste management company about the regulations in place
- Find out if there is a local tire and rim disposal program near your neighborhood.
- Take them to an official and legal recycling center or a scrapyard, a landfill, or a burning disposal facility.
- When buying new tires, ask the auto shop if they can recycle your old ones for a fee by handing them off to a certified recycler.
M&M VEHICLE TRANSPORT RECOMMENDATIONS
- Be responsible to the planet: be sure your old tires are properly handled and disposed of so they won’t be harmful to the community or the environment.
