FREIGHT DEFINITION
Any cargo or load weighing more than 150 pounds is defined as freight. Even though we transport any kind of goods, and cover all transport needs, even small ones, we will refer in this article to heavy equipment shipping.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRANSPORT
This is an oversized load, dismantled or in one piece, heavier and larger than standard cargo. Within this category we have:
- Construction Equipment
- Oversized Equipment
- Farm Equipment
- Industrial Machinery
- Mining Equipment, etc.
OUR TRANSPORT OPTIONS
- Conestoga truck: A trailer equipped with a soft roof and sides supported by a removable frame designed to protect cargo during transport similar to a closed truck while allowing by removal of the roof and sides for loading by forklift or crane
- Standard Flatbed shipping: A method for the transportation of cargo that may not require the enclosure of a dry van, cannot be loaded or unloaded from a dock, or does not fit within the dimensions of standard truck trailers. A flatbed’s design allows for cranes and forklifts to load goods from all angles.
- Removable Gooseneck: A detachable low-bed front assembled to a trailer.
- Step-Deck: An open deck trailer that provides two hauling platforms, one shorter than the other.
- Double Drop Extendable: For taller loads, is known as a low boy trailer; it has a depression between the two axles for more versatility when loading heavy, tall, and oversized loads.
- Landoll trailer: For extra-heavy equipment, able to carry more weight (dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, etc.)
OUR SHIPPING METHODS
- LTL FREIGHT: (LESS-THAN-TRUCKLOAD): When the freight does not occupy all the space on the platform and can share space with other loads and therefore the cost is only for the portion it requires. This method is also known as capacity sharing.
- TL FREIGHT: (TRUCK-LOAD): When the freight requires all the room in the truck.
- FTL FREIGHT (FULL TRUCK LOAD): when the goods to be transported are large enough to take up all the space or the weight capacity of the trailer.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT RATES
There are a lot of factors involved when it comes to calculating and estimate of shipping rates, such as:
- Freight size: The larger and heavier the freight, the more manpower and specialized loading equipment it will require to be handled, as well as the higher consumption of fuel it will demand.
- Origin and destination: In general, long distances mean more money.
- Method: It varies, depending on the shipping method (LTL, TL, or FTL).
- Special requirements: Some loads that might need special handling or more sophisticated equipment to be loaded and unloaded represent an extra charge.
