PREPARING YOUR VEHICLE FOR SHIPPING

A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Now that you have booked your vehicle shipping with M&M VEHICLE TRANSPORT, proper preparation before transit is the next move in the shipping process. Every step is important to prevent damage when transporting your vehicle. Here is a guide on exactly what to do to have a damage-free and smooth shipping experience:

STEP 1

The washing: Wash your car thoroughly. Scratches, dents, and dings will be more visible if the vehicle is clean, which is important when inspecting it with our driver, before and after transportation, evidencing preexisting damages.

STEP 2:

The cleaning: Remove unnecessary items and personal belongings from the inside.  Anything hanging or loose may cause damage by moving around, shifting, or breaking off along the journey. Your vehicle should be clutter-free to avoid interior damage.

STEP 3:

The accessories removal: Any external accessories should be properly secured and/or folded or retracted, such as mirrors and antennas.  Adds-on like spoilers and fog lights, ski racks, and grills as well as exterior spare tires should be removed or properly protected before shipping. Do not leave radios, car phones, clickers, or toll or parking tag passes inside.

STEP 4:

The leak checking: Check your vehicle for any leaking whatsoever, be it battery fluid, oil, gas, coolant, etc. Leaks represent a possible hazard to your own vehicle and a potential dripping risk to other vehicles below in the trailer. If our driver detects any leaking, he may refuse to clear your vehicle for shipping.

STEP 5:

The gas checking: Your gas tank should be a quarter gallon of fuel.  More than that can leak out during the shipping journey which might be hazardous, besides representing an unnecessary extra weight, meaning more difficulties when loading and unloading and more money for you to pay.

STEP 6:

Tire checking: It is important to check the tire pressure; they shouldn´t be either underinflated or overinflated, as this would represent an issue when loading and unloading.

STEP 7:

The battery checking: Your vehicle, unless specifically declared inoperable, should start up and roll on and off the trailer. Otherwise, you might face extra charges. The battery should be fully operational and secure in the mounting bracket.

STEP 8:

The device’s deactivation: Be sure to turn off any alarms and alert devices prior to shipping, as the trailer´s movement may activate them during transit.

STEP 9:

Convertible car protection: When transporting a convertible car, it is advisable to make sure it is properly closed and safe against water and moisture, dust, and debris, no matter if it travels within an enclosed trailer.

STEP 10:

The car locking: At the moment of the loading, your vehicle should be locked up and a set of keys given to the driver, while you keep a spare set for you.  This, is in case your vehicle needs to be moved due to unforeseen circumstances or unexpected issues.
