¿Have you recently checked the cleanliness of your car? ¿Is it as clean on the inside as it is on the outside? And by inside, we do not mean the interior, we talk about the engine; ¿How often do you have your engine washed? ¿Do you really need to clean it? ¿Can you do it yourself? The answers to these and other questions will clear up any doubts you may have about cleaning a car engine:
¿DO I REALLY NEED TO CLEAN THE ENGINE?
Yes. Dust buildup, excess dirt, oil, and pollution may affect the proper functioning of your car, causing clogged hoses, accumulating solid layers of soil, and creating leaks. In extreme cases, these residues can also cause a fire. All this reduces the life expectancy of your vehicle.
¿HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN THE ENGINE?
Regularly. It depends on the road conditions: in urban areas, every six months. In dusty or dry places (unpaved roads), every three months. In rainy or snowy zones, perhaps several times a year would be advisable.
¿CAN I DO IT MYSELF?
Unless you have some basic knowledge and are familiar with a vehicle´s engine, we strongly recommend not to do it yourself. There are so many things that could go wrong, unleashing a long list of problems that could cost a lot of money in the future.
¿WHAT TYPE OF CLEANING SHOULD I CHOOSE?
There are several options:
Pressure-Wash cleaning
Professional water pressure wash cleaning requires prior protection of electrical and electronic components and connections, wiring, and terminals, spark plugs, air filter box, distributor cap, and alternator connections, by wrapping them up before the washing.
Waterless cleaning
Basically, uses an engine degreaser instead of water and is a completely manual method.
Steam Cleaning
It uses high temperature and high-pressure steam for cleaning. It requires no chemicals, the thermal degradation and gentle steam combined easily remove dirt from the engine.
¿DOES THE ENGINE CLEANING ENSURE A LONGER SERVICE LIFE FOR MY VEHICLE?
Proper and regular engine cleaning will improve the performance of your vehicle. A clean car engine will be free of rust and corrosion, dry plastic hoses, unwanted free entry of oxygen into the combustion chamber, and will not suffer from dirt entering the lubrication system.
M&M VEHICLE TRANSPORT RECOMMENDATIONS:
Have your engine washed regularly; this will help to significantly increase its useful life and allows you to detect leaks and worn-out hoses, among many other issues.
Always go to a reliable cleaning service center. Put it in the hands of professionals. It may cost a little more but will save you future troubles.
If you are determined to do it yourself, be well informed and documented by watching tutorials, reading, and following all the instructions, especially those related to safety. Check your vehicle user´s manual on the subject.
